Welcome to 1T’s Class Page

Hello, I’m Miss Tomkins and I will be your child’s class teacher for the next year. I am looking forward to teaching your child/ren and helping them to grow both academically and socially. If you have any questions about your child, please come to see me to help me best support your child.

Homework in Year 1

All Homework will be handed out on a Thursday and it will be due back in every Monday. The main focus will be providing children with a range of activities, which develops what they have been learning.

Reading in Year 1

Children will continue to develop their reading skills through the teaching of phonics in class and with their own class reading book. We aim to change these books once a week and we would like you to listen to your child daily (where possible) to help build their confidence in this area. Please sign your child’s reading record every time you listen to them read and where necessary notify us with your comments. These can be very useful. You are also welcome to record comments about additional books your child has taken an interest in and we would also encourage you to continue to read books of interest to your child so that they can hear you reading too! Please can you make sure your child returns their book to school by the latest on Thursday so that we can send them home with their new book.

Physical Education in 1T

This will take place everMonday and Thursday. Please remember that this year, we will be expecting children to change for P.E lessons at school. Children should bring their P.E kit into school, with each item labelled with their name and class. These will be kept on their coat pegs and sent home to be washed at the end of each half term. Please ensure that earrings have been removed on this day. Children with long hair will also be expected to have this tied up.
